Being unfaithful

An Abac poll by Assumption University has revealed that being unfaithful to one's partner is now common in Thai society (พฤติกรรมการนอกใจคู่รักและการมีกิ๊กของสังคมไทย).

One in three of 1480 people surveyed in Bangkok and surrounding provinces said they had seen someone on the side - had their own 'kik' (กิ๊ก) - with almost 40 per cent of that group saying they were still seeing him or her. Of them, 60 per cent said they had had sex - but when asked if it was okay if their own partner was to be unfaithful with a 'kik', 85 per cent said they would find it unacceptable.

At the same time, news has emerged that the most common source of new Aids infections last year - 40 per cent - was from husbands passing it on to their wives. They were followed by gay men (22 per cent), female prostitutes (11 per cent), wives passing it on to their husbands (10 per cent), and partners having sex outside marriage (seven per cent). Last year, 7000 married men and women were recorded as having Aids.
