Knock yourself out (1)

Regulars at thaivisa's gay sub-forum are having fun getting stuck into this blog.

It's boring and poorly written, they say...boyfriend sells old clothes, woman down the hall makes noise, blah blah.

Blogs are like diaries. It is hard to dip in to them and immediately find something interesting.

This blog provides a glimpse of Thai life...a snapshot, through the eyes of one person, who may not lead a particularly interesting life.

After writing this blog for more than 2.5 years, I am only now learning how to write so I have some chance of pleasing readers.

So if it's boring and poorly written now, imagine how bad it was in the past!

now, see part 2

  1. gasp! how dare they.

"Blogs are like diaries." -- exactly.

if you approach it this way, you cannot write your blog ONLY to please your readers. more importantly, i think, you have to stick to your thoughts.

your blog effectively expresses your musings in a very personal and insightful way.

if some people find this boring, they can always read some other "exciting" blog, whatever that means.

but i'm definitely sticking to your superbly-written blog.

    cheers!

  2. I like it. For some odd reason,I enjoy reading about your mundane daily activities. It's not boring to me.

  3. i like reading your blog, too.

in fact, it's far better than reading comments about how someone else's blog sucks...

  4. keep on writing...you have improved a lot in terms of stories & commentaries, but please stay out of politics...the Economist is better at that.

  5. The TV gay forum has had a lot of problems of its own for a few years- mostly in the form of weak moderation of its dysfunctional types. Wouldn't take any criticism from those types to heart.

  6. Keep up the good work. I live in Bangkok but spend about half the year working in nearby countries. When I'm away I read your blog everyday to keep in touch with a Thai reality somewhat similar to mine (including the boyfriend who seems eerily similar). I like your honesty.

  7. Yes please ignore the haters (easy for me to say since their comments aren't directed at me). As of now there are only 3 people posting negative comments on TV and there are comments of support. I really enjoy your blog and I am glad you take the effort to write it. You have an interesting story to tell and it looks like you have plenty of people who like to read it. Keep up the good work sir!

  8. I also read your blogs to stay touch with my roots. Life is not a bed of roses for anyone including Bill Gates. So far so good, blog nong dee kwah!

  9. Admittedly, not all your blog entries interest me. Particularly those about the Red and Yellow. And it has nothing to do with how you write but how indifferent I am on those few subjects.
You certainly do not have the obligation to face lift this blog in to a bank account which everyone loves to read.
Leave the bigger picture to Google and Wiki, for the mundane little things in Thailand, I know I can count on you. Cheers.

  10. bkkdreamer, every blog is unique and has different goals. some want to please the masses, others want to "save" their own life (akin to a diary) others want to write as a form of art etc. whatever you feel like you want to do with this blog, do it! I find this blog a very refreshing. You have a sweet and humble way of writing and do not boast. It is enlightening to hear about a farang-thai gay couple and your everyday life. There are enough blogs that write about paid moneyboys and casual sex. stick to your guns!

  11. i like reading your blog.

been reading for some time now but never left a comment.

if my saying so would give you the morale to keep updating your blog, i would say 'please, mr, i like reading it really.'

oh, and please say hi to your boyfriend maiyuu.

  12. Even though I could not care less about the wannabe actors, singers, djs, vjs,... in Thailand, who is going out with who and all the celebrity sillyness that permeates thai society... (at the end of the day...how many worthwhile artists does this country have?)... I really appreciate your posts coming from the other side of the river...and they are in my bookmark folder with the New York Times and BBC News...

  13. Superbly written...Probably not.
    Absolutely entertaining...for sure...

Even if my experience in Thailand is completely different to yours and we do not share the same taste in guys I still read you regularly, and plan on keeping on doing it in the future.

  14. Agree! Your blog is entertaining and shows the stuff you find interesting in a way that you are comfortable expressing. For those who want something else they can go elsewhere, the world is big enough for them to find fancy writing etc.

    Keep up the good work!

It's kinda funny how I find these things very endearing and extremely amusing.

I loved your post about your bf selling old clothes or him selling old magazines to raise funds for the household. It's touching.

And, you know I love your weird neighbors, especially the noisy Chinese family who moved out.
1 guy impregnating 2 sisters and they all live under the same roof, that's crazy. I have gotten to know them through you and now I miss them.

  16. Thank you, Lyn I have more stories coming up...including another one from the pier, which won't please you, where my begging friends ask me to give money again - and buy them a new fishing rod.

This person finds it boring and poorly written but reads it anyway? and writes about it too?
