Note the Thai's attempt to show concern by pretending to be jealous.
Actually, the barworker might actually be jealous, who knows - even if they only met the day before. Note also the plea for money.
Thai: Hello, how are you?
Farang: Fine. You?
T: I am going into hospital/my parents are sick/I am lonely.
F: That's funny...I have problems too. Would you like to hear about them?
T: Are you with girlfriend/Do you have girlfriend? You have many girls, I know...
F: No. I am single.
T: You want see me?
F: Up to you...you are the one who called me, remember?
F: Up to you...you are the one who called me, remember?
A farang friend of mine had this conversation a while ago with a young woman of the night.
Man, woman, it makes no difference - the Thai bar worker in her comes through clearly enough.

Ok, here is a little bit of reader sentiment: your last post has 11 comments. This one about Thai "celebrities" has none. So, you do the math. You have a winning hand and you don't even know it! We want to hear about you. Even he most boring moment of your every day life is infinitely more interesting than any second hand knowledge about Thai stars that we can all find elsewhere if we were really interested. I don't believe that by saying this we mean that we only want to know about farangs salivating after Thai boys. I think what some of your readers are trying to tell you is that your original content is more interesting than anything else you could research.

You make good points, and I understand that original content is infinitely better than anything I can regurgitate from the Thai media.
However, some days I have little original content about my Thai life to offer.
I can provide diary stories or stories about Maiyuu most days, but finding material every day is difficult.
No one's life is that interesting, and after nine years living here there's only so much I can 'see' about Thai life that might make a good story for the blog.
I know readers like to read content every day, so I have to fill the gap somehow.
I am aware that stories about Thai stars are not as popular, but they should be seen as part of the overall package (like the various sections on offer in a newspaper).
In the same way, this blog can be viewed as just one foreigner's blog among all those on offer in the Thai blogging community.
No one blogger can do it all.
That said, I should have a new story about the boyfriend tomorrow, all going well.

I am willing to give this purist approach to blogging a go...providing entries about our lives together, examined up close, and shutting out the rest of the world as if it does not exist.
I might have to carry a mini-diary around with me, so I can jot down ideas.
If not, I'll have trouble remembering what to write every morning.
I could start with an inventory of the boyfriend's knickers. How does that sound? Intimate enough?

Your life is different now that you moved. The writing influences are missing. Before you typed in the morning and things happened as you sipped your morning brew. Chicken squawking. Chinese banging away at something in the next apartment. Lovely delivery men supplying the shops below your window. Conflicts and mayhem of daily life in the Soi helped you relay stories to us. You just reported them as they happened. Now you are living in a quiet area. Far above the street below. Your life is calm and that reflects in your stories. The occasional flair ups that jostle you from your zen state make for good reading. Flood waters, visits to the doctor, parking problems are mild compared to before. Even your relationship is calmer now. The boyfriend is happy and proud of the the new living space/location. He is a well kept man now. As life changes, blogs change. In a way, I hope you run out of topics. It would indicate your life is peaceful. The young poet full of angst once wrote bold verse that expressed his pained life. Success brings bliss and the pen stops fighting.

ReplyDeleteNeil: Eloquently put.
You are right, the writing influences are not what they were. I live in placid, settled surroundings now, among educated people with money.
I can still find the odd drama to relay, but on the whole they have lost the zing they had in the past.

Yeah! I can snap out some prose on the fly. Writing under the influence of antihistamines and caffeine does the cognitive thought good. Buzzing in a strange way till the sinus clear away. Enough about that. Covering one eye to focus, I read the knicker notion. I know your just being snippy, but....

l enjoy your celebrity posts, they are little intervals between your 'everyday life' posts!
As long as you keep a happy balance no-one can complain........can they?
'Cant please everyone...etc'.
