Maiyuu likes his sleep. The other morning, when I wandered into his room, I thought I could see two figures in the gloom, lying on his bed. I took a closer look. I was right: another young guy was sleeping next to Maiyuu, with his body pressed up against the wall. They were not holding each other, though how they managed to sleep together comfortably on a single bed I do not know.
Maiyuu had gone out the night before, and by the time I went to bed, at 2am, was still not home. Without Maiyuu here, I can barely sleep. About 5am, I sent him a message urging him to return.
About 7am he finally turned up with his boss, a gay guy called Poo, 32. By that time I had managed to fall sleep, so the first time I saw them was the next afternoon, when I wandered into Maiyuu's room.
I had not met Maiyuu's boss before, though I had seen pictures. Maiyuu and Poo, who is having troubles with his own boyfriend, are close. Maiyuu invited him to sleep the night at our place after Poo and his boyfriend argued.
Poo confides in Maiyuu. Some days he calls him many times. When he calls, Maiyuu talks in a soft, consoling voice, which for a while I mistook as the signs of a budding romance. Maiyuu assures me it is not so.
When Poo calls, Maiyuu goes into another room so I cannot hear them talk.
'How much do you like him?' I asked Maiyuu, after Poo had left. Poo had said little when I met him: shy, perhaps.
'I feel sorry for him, because he is having troubles with his boyfriend, who goes out at night a lot. They argue, but cannot be apart,' he said.
Previously, Maiyuu has asked whether Poo can stay with us. I do not mind, although I do not know how Poo would react if he saw me holding my boyfriend.
Today, before Maiyuu left for work, I picked him up and held him in my arms. We cuddled, and kissed.
'Before, I never saw you behave like this,' said Maiyuu. He's right: for months, even years, we have virtually ignored each other.
'I have changed. I love you, even though you are not often here,' I said.
Hopefully the memories of those cuddles will stay fresh in his mind, so he will hurry home to see me tonight rather paying too much attention to his boss Poo. I do not like being alone in this place. The older I get, the more I crave human company.
'I could make a replica of myself and put him in the corner,' Maiyuu offered.
'It's not the same,' I said, as I smacked his bottom, and ushered him out the door.
