Maiyuu is whipping up some chocolate fudge, after yesterday asking me what fudge was.
'Like brownies, but smaller,' I said.
'I will try making it for us!' he said excitedly.
Maiyuu went out in search of ingredients, including corn syrup, which Martha Stewart uses in her baking as a thickener. After visiting a few places Maiyuu eventually found an imported bottle of the stuff at Villa Supermarket in Sukhumwit.
Maiyuu was excited by his discovery. 'A couple of shopkeepers told me I could only find it at Villa. The place is full of imported bakery items,' he said.
Dear Villa: I can see many more visits coming up. Maybe we should just buys shares?
The supermarket chain is popular with foreigners in Bangkok, according to the internet.
Thank you to readers who offered advice on how to cure my groin itch, which I suspect is a fungal infection picked up from my condo pool.
I shall visit my local pharmacy (there are a couple in the slum area across from me) to see what they have in stock.
Three main groups of tenants appear to use the pool: oldies (mainly Thais, but also a few foreigner oldies like me); actively, sprightly farang (anyone still in their 20s or 30s); and youngsters learning how to swim.
Occasionally a group of teens also visits. They might be the offspring of tenants, or perhaps they snuck in from the local learning establishment (can't say the 'S' word any more - Adsense disapproves) next to us.
I am not sure which group brought with them the fungal infection. But whoever it is, I hope they are suffering the red itch as badly as me.

watch out for your eyes also.. an eye infection is hard to cure and will make you miserable. After you swim, rinse your ears and goin area with Hydrogen peroxide. H2O2 is cheap and will keep your ears, nails and toes and toe nails fungus free.

Is this pool outdoor? If so pollution and inadequate water treatment are the more likely culprits.
Here in NY most of the new-er towers have rooftop pools enclosed and all have backwash treatment systems. City air is dirty and, lets be honest here, people piss in pools :-)
Wear eye protection, shower immediately after swimming.

Isn't fudge closer to a soft toffee than a Brownie?
Here fudge is boiled condensed milk, cream and Vanilla essence. Yummy.
l do hope you clear up the itch, it sounds awful.
My ex-husband had an allergy to metal against the skin (belt buckles, incase you think l clapped him in irons) and he use to use Betenovate. Cant remember how it's spelt but if all else fails it's another option. ;)

Anon: I now take a shower after every dip in the pool. It's becoming a real drama, as I go for a swim twice a day. However, if it keeps away the rash and the itch, it is worth it.
Lino: Outdoors, and you are right, the water is not spectacularly clean.
Wilko: Not here...at least not according to Chef Maiyuu. His fudge is like a compact, concentrated version of a brownie.
I would not say it resembles toffee...you will be able to see for yourself when I post the pictures tomorrow. :)

Anon: Maiyuu told me the name. He may have made it up himself, but I doubt it, as he referred at the same time to Thais who like to play around with the names of dishes to make them sound more appealing.
Wilko: Thank you for the Olde English Fudge recipe. I shall show it to the BF and ask him if it differs much from his own.

Wilko: I have told Maiyuu that one kind blog reader left an old English fudge recipe for him to inspect. He hasn't seen it yet, but let me thank you in advance.
Thanks also for the extra detail.
I can't help identity 18cm Tim either, but he sounds interesting, especially if he comes greased and lined!

On a health note, sweetened corn syrup has been targetted as a cause of major health problems in the US (i.e., it appears to be worse than pure sugar)

Wilko: I am trying not to eat too much of it. We might have to give some away to the office.
Jimmi: Well, excu-u-use me for being so slow.
Anon: I shall let Martha know.
