Who wears the chef's hat in this kitchen?

Maiyuu is in the kitchen, making cooking sounds.

While he is busy whipping up some creation in there, I am often in my bedroom, tapping away at the keyboard.

I must admit, when I hear him approaching my room these days, I react like Pavlov's dog...I automatically assume he is bringing me something tasty to eat. Maiyuu - food! Maiyuu - food!

Sometimes, of course, he comes not bearing food but some instruction for the day or other cheerless news.

'Today you have to deposit your Adsense cheque before 2pm, so we can withdraw it promptly tomorrow!' he told me a moment ago.

I thought he was bringing me breakfast, but no. Normally he places his latest cooking wonder on the desk space next to me, then walks out again.

A moment later, from the other room, he will call out: 'Is it delicious?'

As yet, nothing has come out of his busy kitchen space today, but give him another half an hour...

-
Blogs must change, along with everything else. In the header field under the title, I have changed the wording which describes what this blog is all about. It now reads:

'Going 'ba' Thai: Tales from a foreigner and his Thai boyfriend, who loves to cook. Who wears the chef's hat in this kitchen? Celebrity news and a diary thrown in.'

This is the only the second change in three years, and was overdue.

In the beginning, this blog focused mainly on Thai stars. These days, I can rarely be bothered, as I have passed that phase.

I prefer to write about Maiyuu and myself instead, as it feels more real.

The other day I found a mention of this blog on a list compiled by a Thai-resident farang woman blogger, who is planning to tell readers what she thinks of us all.

Feeling like a kid whose Mum is coming to inspect his room, I thought I had better get my house in order for the big day.

'Flesh blog!' I don't like the sound of that. 'Food blog!' - that sounds much better. The change to the wording in the header field more accurately reflects what I now want this blog to be.

To that end, Maiyuu now has his own category, called 'Chef Maiyuu's kitchen', which contains pictures he has taken of his own cooking and baking.

One cynical reader left a message recently which claimed that Maiyuu was only cooking for me to make up for what he fails to provide in other areas.

That brings me to the second small announcement I want to make today: I will no longer tolerate such random Thai bashing on this blog.

Only a truly pathetic soul would make such a miserable assertion...the poster knows neither me nor my boyfriend, but still feels fit to sow his poisonous seed. That is just so...lame.

From now on, I will do as the Daleks do: Exterminate, exterminate!

" The other day I found a mention of this blog on a list of Bangkok blogs compiled by a farang woman blogger, who is planning to tell readers what she thinks of us all. " - An FWC :)

The easiest way to deal with this 'woman' is to write to her blog and thank her profusely for acknowledging that everyone is equal and for promoting your gay mens' blog.

    Yraen.

Damn right! To hell with the wreckers and haters! You almost have to pity some of the poor sad buggers who can do nothing else but point fingers and predict "doooom" in their small quavering voices. Perfectly matches their small quavering intellects.... ;)

I concur, do provide us with links. I wanna check her out too. Am I on the list? HAHAH. I'm a Thai blogger too. Though not base in Bangkok.

Her reviews may be fair and reasonable - I have no reason to expect otherwise at this stage, as I am not familiar with her blog. I discovered it just the other day.

For those interested, the blog is here: http://womenlearnthai.com/

BTW: I do not want to sound judgemental, but I am not a fan of this phrase 'fat white cow'.

I don't know where it came from, but to my mind it is unpleasant and unnecessary.

Who wants to sound like a bitter, twisted sister? Not me. I like women, and wouldn't want people to think otherwise. If I went around using that phrase, they might have cause for doubt.

Once again, is raising specific questions about one Thai person the same as "Thai-bashing" (a general act of characterising Thai people negatively)? You seem to think so, which is (as usual) worrying.

So this is now a cooking blog? Or are you really going to raise the relationship issues to which your roommate objects?

I should call a vote. Hands up, all readers who think the last post should be deleted.

Once, I would have been inclined to keep him, as his messages stir controversy.

But every time he leaves one of these messages I have to read and consider the thing, which is a bore. I would prefer to remain narrow, stupid and closed-minded.

No, it is not just a cooking blog. I probably won't post recipes, as it takes too long, and readers prefer pictures anyway.

A diary-style account of our relationship will continue, as will occasional news about Thai stars, though they won't be confined to men, as I want to broaden the scope of this blog...gay issues are too narrow and confining.

May we have pictures of the two of you?

Well, it is a compliment to be told that I make you think, even if 90% of your readers seem to think I am full of hatred, jealousy, do nothing else, etc.

The problem with saying that I don't know you and your roommate is that I know everything you have told us- and I also know what you have avoided telling us- and both of those things are very revealing. I'm sorry if you think it isn't fair of me to come to the obvious conclusions.

You can use me as a scapegoat, but when I capitulate and you start complaining about the roommate again (and again, and again)- what will you do when your readers wise up finally? It isn't as though your money, health, and other problems are simply going to disappear. Who are you going to have sex with now? It is a pretty basic human need.

And really, what will you do with your life, having filled it with unrewarding, unfulfilling characters at work and at home? It is your responsibility. There's a thought-provoker for you.

Aaron: Neither of us want our pictures to appear on the net, thank you.

Kevo: I have suggested Maiyu might like to write down his recipes, but he says many of them come from his head, or if he does use recipes, he adapts them in some cases to see what happens.

Apart from that, writing them down would take time. When he's not cooking I am sure he would rather relax in front of the TV than have to attend to this blog.

As the owner of the blog you have every right to delete any comment that offends you or you feel will detract from the popularity of your blog. I agree that random Thai bashing is not welcomed. If he wants to tell us of something that has happened to him, sure. But let us draw our own conclusions.

Hello, Ray. I have invited Mr Anon previously to leave stories of his life in Thailand (assuming he has one) so we may be the judge of whether he is himself in a position to judge others.

Of course he won't, because he's spineless.

Regarding the woman farang blogger, I don't see any mention of your blog yet on her site, but she does interview a man called Myke Hawke. Myke Hawke?!! Is he the brother to Mike Hunt??

Agree with you that most women are good people and make good and lasting friends.

To Critical Anon above; This is not the time for that kind of talk. Things are going well for BKK right now. Let it be for now.

I really find it strange that you think I care so much about you or your blog- or that you would think that I am somehow afraid of your opinions (afraid for you is more like it).

Since it seems so important to you- and out of vague curiousity what kind of bizarre drama you will try to make of it this time (the last time I posted any dating stories you really lost the plot) here's an average recent date with someone I've known a little while:

I went over to his house (he's in his 30s). His housemates and he had cooked dinner- chicken soup, grilled fish, and veggies, with fruit for dessert. I brought some Chinese food and also some drinks. We ate dinner. The roommates started watching a DVD while he and I had a beer or two on the porch. We chatted in basic Thai and I learned a few new words.

Since the housemates share rooms to save money, it wasn't really convenient considering our plans to stay over there in their bedroom, so we went to a local cheap hotel- he paid for it this time. We did what would probably be expected- I'm assuming that we don't need to go into the details but we both enjoyed ourselves- and we got up in the morning and both went to work. He encouraged me to come back next week.

Well, there you go- a tale of drama-free dating- the only kind I'm really interested in doing.

This blog appears about 11th or 12on the list. I counted them down, but my memory is so short I have already forgotten.

Does Maiyuu keep notes on what he cooks and the changes he makes? If he doesnt, he may not be able to re-create something that was particularly amazing the first time around :P

Just to keep you up-to-date with my sordid and indefensible lifestyle, I am meeting the 30-something guy again tomorrow evening. My prediction: dinner and fun once again.

I went to a gym today- a guy I know there chatted with me to practice his English. I suggested a regular language exchange, but he wasn't interested in committing the time.

Went out dancing after- was lots of fun. Well, that's it for this week, until the weekend, anyway.

Update: I arrived at my date's house this evening, only to discover he had become ill with a fever and a bad stomach. Dinner (tom yum and veggies) had already been prepared by him and the roommates, so we ate and I tried to help him feel better, rubbing his forehead and wiping it with a wet cloth. His roommate said he wasn't sleeping enough, so I made him promise to get to bed early tonight.

Went out dancing last night and was flirted with by various types, but I was really too tired to get too involved with anyone- the gym is a bit of nuisance sometimes.

Tonight going out dancing at another location; tomorrow night have another meeting with the friend I mentioned in the previous posts.

Um.... is this what you were expecting? I wouldn't want to seem spineless or anything.
