Energy drinks, mad dogs, and mass tetanus shots

Boyfriend Maiyuu is feeling better after his dog bite.

His mother took him for tetanus injections when he was a child, he told me last night.

Maiyuu, who grew up in Chon Buri province, lived in a shared housing compound with his grandmother, aunt and other relatives.

‘My grandmother owned a dog called Lipo, named after the energy drink. She used to take this energy drink late at night during marathon card-playing sessions.

‘Anyway, one day Lipo started going mad. My aunt was teaching students at home.

‘Doctors from the Ministry of Health visited us and gave us all a tetanus injection as a precaution.

‘Lipo never did bite me, but one day he did go mad so they put him down.’

Thankfully, they took Lipo away to do that.

In the provinces, Maiyuu says public health authorities can visit folks at home to administer care, such as tetanus injections.

Alternatively, they visit schools. Students line up and are given an injection one by one.

Well thats good, but a Tetanus injection only last 10 years!
Maiyuu should look into 'topping up' and you, just in case.
    Yours worryingly

Furthermore, rabies and tetanus are not the same. Tetanus is the preventive vaccine for a fatal and painful condition commonly called 'lockjaw,' which is contracted through exposure to types of bacteria on objects in the environment when we are wounded, and it is true as the previous poster claims that it needs to be renewed every 10 years or so.

Rabies is a different kettle of fish altogether, but if Maiyuu has indeed already been given a kind of shot for being bitten by a dog, that is what is probably was (and not tetanus).

Nice Blog. I am thinking about coming to Thailand within a year and staying 6-9 months to decide if I want to make it a retirement home. Would you recommend getting rabies shots before coming? Also, you mentioned in one of your posts that when you relocated to Thailand you stayed in a hostel when you first got there. Could you give a name? I have looked at one called SUK 11, I think.
