AF4: A boy much loved (part 1)

Hundreds of messages of condolence have come in for 'Pit’ Pittaya Wongwandi, a young man who perished in the One-Two-Go airlines crash at Phuket airport on Sunday.

Messages have been left at the Pantip webboard and the website for Academy Fantasia, where posters recall Pit and his twin brother Wit turning up for auditions for the fourth season of the Academy Fantasia reality show, which finished recently.

The pair, who performed as a duo, failed to get in, though they did make it to the final 50. After failing in his quest to get into AF House, Pit took a job as a trainee steward with the low-budget airline.

Of five cabin crew serving the 130 passengers on board that ill-fated flight, only one survived. The two captains in the cockpit also died. Pit's body was found in the aircraft. The plane veered off the runway on touchdown, hit an earth embankment, broke into two and burst into flames. Eighty-nine people on board the plane perished.

Pit's father, twin brother and older sister have used the Pantip webboard as a forum for keeping Pit's friends and fans updated on what is happening in Phuket. His family have picked up his body and have returned to Bangkok. The body is resting at a temple, where funeral rites begin today. Pit's twin brother is travelling back from Britain to attend the funeral rites.

One boy recalls the day the pair turned up for auditions at a Bangkok hotel. The poster says he and his younger brother were entering together, and when he saw the twin brothers performing as a package, he felt annoyed.

However, he says that when Pit and Wit performed, the crowd sang along with them. The tension which filled the air, as would-be contestants waited for the result, quickly abated.

When the result was known, and everyone went home, the twins stayed behind. The poster says he spoke to them, and all agreed they would come back next year for another try.

Pit's father has posted pictures of Pit and Wit as youngsters (see next post). His siblings have both left sad messages talking of the love they feel for their brother.
